Without exaggeration, I feel like this is the most expected perfume news to come out in fragrance history. As much as Bleu de Chanel is marketed as a mysterious, magnetic scent expressing freedom, it has become one of the most basic fragrances on the market. Therefore, it makes perfect sense for Chanel to bring in TikTok’s boy of the hour.
Jacob Elordi’s Career

Jacob Elordi’s rise and fall as a respected actor was also a very predictable event. But that depends on whom you ask, I suppose. See, some might mistake commercial success and publicity for true success, but no, not all press is good press.
As most of us know, Elordi became known mostly due to his role as Nate Jacobs in Euphoria: a manipulative and insecure star quarterback driven by a desperate need for control. He later went on to play the role of Felix Catton in Saltburn, directed by Emerald Fennell. Felix is a handsome and wealthy Oxford student. Although both characters are entitled, manipulative young boys, it wouldn’t be fair to say they are exactly the same. While Felix hides his manipulation under the guise of naivety and goodness, Nate Jacobs is more outwardly aggressive.
Frankenstein & Wuthering Heights

What truly changed people’s perspective on Elordi was his exceptional performance in Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein. The movie was critically acclaimed, and Elordi was nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the Academy Awards. This success was well deserved, but unfortunately clouded by the ever-impending doom of Elordi’s role in Wuthering Heights.
When Frankenstein came out, it was a well-known fact that Elordi had been cast as Heathcliff in Emerald Fennell’s “inspired” adaptation of Wuthering Heights. This, on its own, received a lot of backlash before the film even came out, and rightfully so. Jacob Elordi is a white man; Heathcliff is definitely not. When the film came out, it disappointed; the criticism of it didn’t. Fennell’s adaptation of Wuthering Heights was perceived as the “smooth-brain” adaptation, stripping every complex and nuanced theme from the story.
Blue De Chanel

When Bleu de Chanel came out in 2010, it broke from the traditional, heavy, or purely aquatic scents of its era with a versatile citrus-incense profile. Created by Jacques Polge to be a definitive blue scent, it acted as the first major male masterbrand release for the house since Égoïste in 1990. The late French actor Gaspard Ulliel was the face of the fragrance for twelve years (2010–2022) before Timothée Chalamet succeeded him in 2023. It makes one wonder why Chanel replaced Chalamet so quickly.
Today, blue fragrances, specifically Sauvage by Dior and Bleu de Chanel, are associated with a certain type of toxic masculinity, one that is strikingly similar to what Nate Jacobs possesses. Apart from that, Jacob Elordi’s face is everywhere now, much in the same way Bleu de Chanel (or at least its profile and DNA) is.
