In my youth, there was a fig tree. I was allergic to the leaves of that tree, yet that didn’t stop me from playing around it with my little brother. We would also pick up fresh figs from it when they were in season. The scent of figs would just run free the moment we split the fig in half, like a prisoner that had just escaped their cell after years of confinement.
Those nostalgic memories of a childhood long gone all come rushing back the moment I smell anything figs scented. Regardless if it was a freshly baked fig cake or a luxurious fig-scented perfume, the smell of figs always moves me and gets me sentimental. Here are some of my favorite fig scents. I hope you like them as much as I do and find your own special connection to each of them.
For Her:
1. JPG Scandal Absolu Parfum

Fragrance Family | Amber Floral |
Notes | Top: Tuberose Middle: Black Fig Base: Sandalwood |
Release year | 2024 |
Longevity | Over 10 hours |
Projection | Moderate |
Perfumer | Daphné Bugey, Fabrice Pellegrin and Ane Ayo |
The original Scandal by Jean Paul Gaultier is one of my favorite gourmands, this applies to the women’s and men’s versions. Scandal Absolu is a sweeter, longer-lasting version of the women’s EDP with a heart of delicious, juicy fig. My only complaint would be that I don’t really like the bottle. But that’s easily dealt with my purchasing a refillable bottle to carry the perfume around.
2. Thierry Mugler Womanity EDP

Highlights | Details |
---|---|
Brand | Thierry Mugler |
Best for | Women |
Fragrance Family | Floral Fruity Gourmand |
Notes | Top: Caviar Middle: Ripe Figs Base: Woody |
Release year | 2012 |
Longevity | Over 8 hours |
Projection | Moderate |
Perfumer | Francis Kurkdjian |
Womanity by Thierry Mugler has a more earthy scent that smells more like the wood of the fig tree with a slightly lactonic scent from the ripe fig note in the heart. The top note of caviar gives the overall scent a hint of saltiness that ties it together.
Unisex
1. Byredo Pulp EDP

To be honest, the fig note isn’t the most prominent in Pulp by Byredo, but it’s still there. The best way I could describe this floral fruity unisex perfume would be as a ripe and juicy warm blackcurrant scent combined with pretty and lush fruity notes without being overly aggressive.

I don’t have any men’s fragrances with figs on this list, but I highly recommend this one by Calvin Klein for anyone looking for an everyday fragrance with a subtle note in it. It is sweet, warm, and comforting. Yet, it is subtle enough to be an everyday wear option for the office or running errands.
