Flanker Perfumes Better Than the Original

The original isn’t always better. It is the blueprint, sure. But it is in so many cases the base upon which better things are built, especially in fragrances. Almost every fragrance has one or more flankers, and while many tend to believe that these “ruin” the name of the original, I would disagree. In many cases, the flankers are better, and here are some fragrances that prove that sentiment. 

For Her:

1. Burberry Her Elixir EDP

Starting with Burberry’s Her, the Elixir. I prefer this flanker to all other fragrances from this line for many reasons. Mainly because it is much more decadent and rich than the others. This evokes the feeling of drinking a sweet, creamy strawberry milkshake on a warm spring afternoon. Her Elixir is suitable for everything from being a first-date fragrance to being your signature scent that works all year round.

2. YSL Libre Flowers & Flames EDP

Sticking to the theme of “more is more,” we give you Yves Saint Laurent’s Libre Flower & Flames. This flanker is one of the few that is truly described accurately by its name. When I tried it for the first time, I fell in love immediately. While not a versatile scent, you can still get good wear out of Flower & Flames during the colder months of winter and fall.

For Him:

1. Issey Miyake Le Sel d’Issey EDT

To many (not me), the Le Sel d’Issey eau de toilette flanker feels nostalgic. Kind of like the fragrance your father would wear during casual hangouts when you were younger, but a modern version of that. A fresh, yet grounded, long-lasting fragrance for men, this flanker makes the perfect everyday summer perfume.

2. Gucci Guilty Absolu Pour Homme De Parfum

Guilty Absolu is one of my favourite flankers from the many in the Guilty line. This Parfum is slightly boozy and very ambery, resulting in a rich, sweet, addictive amber spicy scent. According to the Gucci website, “Gucci Guilty fragrances embody the quintessential elegance, transporting the wearer to an intimate and sophisticated dimension,” and I believe this flanker does just that.

Unisex:

1. Giorgio Armani Stronger With You Sandalwood EDP

I thought I couldn’t enjoy an Armani fragrance more than the Stronger With You Intensely flanker, but Stronger With You Sandalwood came out in 2025 and changed everything. This sandalwood fragrance is rich and nutty, with a chestnut note at the heart. The overall scent is creamy, warm, spicy and addictive. 

2. Mancera Cedrat Boise Intense Extrait De Parfum

When the original Mancera Cedrat Boise came out, it was advertised as a very long-lasting, rich, powerful perfume. You can see why people were confused by why the sillage and longevity weren’t as strong as was promised. Then Mancera came out with the Extrait de Parfum version, a more potent, longer-lasting flaner which hit all the marks for the ideal winter scent.
