We usually add salt to food for its unique flavour; we add it to sweets to enhance existing flavours, and we purchase salted snacks for a savoury addition to our day. I imagine the use of salt is no different in perfumery. Except when used to create a marine accord, salt in fragrances adds a unique olfactory dimension to a composition. It enhances notes or gives them an extra edge, much like it does for salted caramel or butter.
