For the sake of transparency, I will start off by saying that the chickpea note is not prominent in any of these fragrances. So if you came into this article with the hopes of smelling like hummus, I’m sorry, but that won’t happen.
Fang Aromatherapy
Before we start discussing these two fragrances that contain a chickpea note, let’s take a look at the brand that created them. Created by the perfumer Fang Fang, Fang Aromatherapy fragrances are quite eccentric. She uses imaginative materials that have been considered hard to work with and transforms them into wearable, sensual scents. She takes notes like chickpeas and sweat and makes gorgeous perfumes. The fragrances created by this brand are inspired by Taiwanese folktales.
“The smellier it is, the more beautiful it can become.” -Fang Fang

Oriental Tarot is an aromatic, spicy scent with a surprising chickpea note in the opening. As I mentioned earlier, the chickpea note doesn’t smell distinct; instead, it blends seamlessly with the other notes, creating a sensual aroma.
For those who don’t know, chickpeas can have a fresh, nutty, or earthy smell or a strong sulfur or sour odour. In this fragrance, they grant a fresh twist to the overall warm scent.
2. Fang Aromatherapy Tatami Bomb

To think that Fang-Fang tried to sneak chickpeas into her fragrances, not once, but twice, is fascinating to me. The second sent with a chickpea note by Fang Aromatherapy, Tatami Bomb, came out in 2020, and it is quite the opposite of Oriental Tarot.
Instead of a warm, spicy aroma, the chickpea here is found in a light-floral, slightly lactonic fragrance. This fragrance is a lovely spring/summer scent and is quite interesting, as you can tell, there’s something strange in there, but you would never be able to tell it’s chickpeas.
