Concentrated perfume oils are fragrances that are either naturally extracted from flowers, woods, grass, and other sources or synthetically created in a lab and then diluted in a carrier like almond oil, vegetable oil, mineral oil, or propylene glycol.
The reason they are diluted in a carrier is that they can be irritating and harsh on the skin if applied in their natural form. In fact, the method of diluting pure oils extracted from natural resources in other oils to use as fragrance has been around since ancient Egypt.
What Is The Difference Between Perfumes and Perfume Oils?
Perfume oil is the pure form of the fragrance before it is further diluted in water or alcohol to make perfumes. Unlike perfumes, the oil is a concentrated form of the fragrance and does not contain alcohol or water.
The type of perfume differs based on the percentage of concentrated perfume oil in it. Due to this, perfume oils will have a longer wear time than perfumes.
What Are The Benefits of Perfume Oils?

- For starters, perfume oils contain no alcohol, making them safer to use on skin, especially sensitive skin. Alcohol is drying to the skin and, in some cases, can be irritating. Some people might even have an allergic reaction to it when it’s found in skincare products or fragrances.
- Perfume oils last much longer than perfumes, which means you would use less of them and purchase them less often. For comparison, I might get perfume every month, especially if it’s one that I wear daily. However, a concentrated perfume oil would last me at least 5 months or more, depending on the bottle size.
- Some notes in concentrated perfume oils, such as lavender, chamomile, sage, rosemary, and peppermint, can have aromatherapy benefits by calming the mind, reducing stress, and easing anxiety.
How Are Perfume Oils Used?

You can wear perfume oils like you would any other fragrance. Apply it to your pulse points (neck, back of wrists, behind the ears, and inner elbows) after prepping your skin with body oil and moisturizer, and call it a day. But there are other ways to use your perfume oils to maximize their potential.
- I recommend wearing it right after you take a nice hot and steamy shower and your pores are open. Just apply it nearly everywhere on your skin. This will make it last much longer throughout the day. Once you’ve applied the perfume oil, put on your favorite moisturizer to lock it in. Choosing a moisturizer with a scent that matches the oil you’ve chosen helps amplify that specific note or fragrance profile.
- One fun way to use your perfume oils is to create your own perfume at home. You can mix and match a few to create a unique fragrance that no one else will be able to get their hands on.
- Use them to better the fragrance of your home. These oils are safe to use in diffusers, so choose your favorite one and add a few drops to your aroma diffuser to get your ideal home fragrance.
How To Apply Perfume Oils To Make Them Last All Day
- Apply the oil right after you shower. Applying it over skin that is basically a blank slate will help it adhere to the skin better. Your pores are also open after a shower, which helps the scent settle and last longer.
- Apply moisturizer. You can either do this before or after applying the oil. If you apply the moisturizer first, ensure it’s unscented and won’t disturb the oil. But if you’re going for a scented one, apply it after the oil and make sure that the scents of both match for a long-lasting scent with more robust projection and sillage.
- Apply the scented oil all over you, but focus on your pulse points. There are your neck, behind your ears, the back of your wrists, and the inside of your elbows and knees. I also like applying it along my arms from my wrist to my elbow and along my legs from my knee to my ankle.
- Reapply when needed. This won’t be necessary for most perfume oils, considering that they are made to last a long time. But if you feel like the one you’re wearing is starting to fade and might need a pick-me-up, just add some more on your pulse points.
Where to purchase concentrated perfume oils?
V Perfumes offers many options for concentrated perfume oils by brands like Ajmal, Arabian Eagle, and Jenny Glow. My personal favorites are the ones by Mark Des Vince, a UAE-based fragrance brand that is both affordable and high in quality.
