Karl Lagerfeld Jeans just dropped a new fragrance pair, Urban Green and Urban Coral. One leans cool and herbal, the other leans warm and floral. Here’s what each one is about.

Urban Green is an aromatic woody fougère in Eau de Toilette. It opens with citron, which is a sharper, greener cousin of lemon, then moves into white lavender with a frosty feel. That’s the part I find interesting. Lavender usually shows up as soft and powdery in fragrances, so a colder, drier lavender is a nice twist on a classic note. Tonka anchors the base with its warm vanilla-meets-hay quality, so it doesn’t stay icy all the way through. It’s a clean fern-style scent that works for daytime and warmer months.

Urban Coral goes the other direction. It’s an amber floral in Eau de Parfum, which means it’s the stronger and longer-wearing of the two. It opens with white flowers, lifted by fresh wisteria so it doesn’t get too heady, and then comes chestnut cream. That’s the part that surprised me. Chestnut cream is a sweet, slightly nutty note that gives the floral a softness pure florals don’t usually have. The base is velvety amber for a warm, slightly sweet trail. This one suits cooler evenings and softer occasions.
