Understanding Fragrance Notes:

A perfume is a carefully constructed blend of individual scents called fragrance notes. These notes are categorized into three main layers, forming what’s known as the fragrance pyramid:
Top Notes: These are the initial, fleeting scents you experience when you first apply a perfume. They’re typically light and refreshing.
Heart Notes: Also known as middle notes. These form the core of the fragrance, providing its character and body.
Base Notes: These are the rich, grounding notes that last on your skin the longest. They provide depth and longevity to the perfume.
For more on notes, you can read our article about layering fragrances. Now, let’s explore the palette of notes you’ll be working with.

Ready to create your signature fragrance? Here’s how to play:
Choose Your Notes: From the 15 fragrance notes listed above, select 9 notes that appeal to you.
Divide into Layers: Divide your chosen 9 notes into the following categories:
- Top Notes
- Heart Notes
- Base Notes
For each note you selected, briefly explain why you chose it and what characteristic you hope it will bring to your perfume. Then briefly describe the overall fragrance you are trying to create. What is its mood, character, and intended wearer?
PS: You are not restricted to any number of notes for each layer. You can distribute the 9 notes you choose however you please!
