One of the chicest perfume houses on the market has now released a new fragrance – Byredo Alto Astral. Founded by Ben Gorham, the Swedish brand has created fragrances that have earned their place as signature scents since 2006. In 2022, Puig acquired the company from its founder, who remained in a creative leadership role until last month.
Alto Astral is Byredo’s first fragrance since its founder’s exit. So I’m very curious to know if there would be a shift in their creative direction or if they will remain faithful to the brand’s philosophy that has made it so beloved. I’m hoping to meet the Byredo we know and love once again, as Alto Astral is a Jérôme Epinette creation. He is known for some of my favourite perfumes, such as Byredo’s Bal d’Afrique and Vilhelm Parfumerie’s Poets of Berlin.
The name Alto Astral is inspired by a Brazilian Portuguese expression that conveys a sense of excitement, joy, and optimism. It seems like a light, summery perfume, the marketing revolving around coconuts and beachside fun under the sun.

I’m hoping for something fresh, with the sparkling sweetness of coconut water, rather than the cloying sweetness we’ve come to expect in coconut perfumes. The perfume isn’t available yet in Dubai, but when it is, you can be sure I’ll be there to explore Byredo’s exploration of coconut water. Keep your eyes on the best perfume store in the UAE, V Perfumes, for the drop of this ultimate summer scent.
