Pink pepper is an interesting note as it’s not exactly something I search for in perfumes, but it is apparent in some of my favorites. It smells fresh, spicy, sweet, and airy, with bright and vibrant fruity-floral undertones that are distinct from the sharp, intense heat of black pepper. It provides a soft, rosy spiciness and a subtle, cheerful warmth that adds vivacity to fragrances. Let’s take a look at some of my favorite fragrances that carry this enticing note.
For Her:
1. Gucci Guilty Pour Femme EDT

---|---|
Brand | Gucci |
Best for | Women |
Fragrance Family | Amber Floral |
Notes | Top: Pink Pepper, Mandarin Orange, and Bergamot Middle: Lilac, Peach, Geranium, and Rose Base: Patchouli and Amber |
Release year | 2019 |
Projection | Moderate – High |
Perfumer | Aurélien Guichard |
The Guilty line by Gucci is extensive to say the least. This flanker of Gucci Guilty came out in 2019, signaling a time of liberation and self-expression with Lana Del Rey and Jared Leto as the faces of the campaign, also featuring a cameo of rock star Courtney Love.
Guilty is airy and floral with a beautiful lilac note. The lilac seems to be in almost equal proportion to pink pepper, which is slightly more prominent. It is chic, modern, and romantic.
2. Chanel Chance EDP

Highlights | Details |
---|---|
Brand | Chanel |
Best for | Women |
Fragrance Family | Cypre Floral |
Notes | Top: Pink Pepper Middle: Jasmine and Iris Base: Patchouli, Musk, and Vanilla |
Release year | 2005 |
Projection | Moderate |
Perfumer | Jacques Polge |
A classic, Chanel Chance is a lovely transition fragrance between teenhood and becoming a young woman. It was the first “grown-up” perfume I’ve ever purchased, and it holds a special place in my heart to this day.
Chanel Chance is a versatile fragrance that makes for an excellent signature scent for young women and older ones alike. If you love patchouli scents and musky perfumes, you’ll love this. The pink pepper note is there, but not so prominent.
For Him:
1. Viktor&Rolf Spicebomb EDT

Highlights | Details |
---|---|
Brand | Viktor & Rolf |
Best for | Men |
Fragrance Family | Woody Spicy |
Notes | Top: Pink Pepper, Elemi, Bergamot, and Grapefruit Middle: Cinnamon, Paprika, and Saffron Base: Tobacco, Leather, and Vetiver |
Release year | 2012 |
Projection | Moderate – High |
Perfumer | Olivier Polge |
As the name states, this fragrance is a spice bomb. The cinnamon and pink pepper notes are prominent in the opening, while the tobacco and leather show up at the dry down. Spicebomb is excellent for fall and winter, and this EDT flanker is appropriate for the office as well.
I love the scent, and I also love the feminine “Flowerbomb” rendition of this scent. They’re both classics. I feel like either would make a good purchase for a teenager or anyone who’s just getting into perfumes.
2. Calvin Klein Defy Parfum

Highlights | Details |
---|---|
Brand | Calvin Klein |
Best for | Men |
Fragrance Family | Woody Aromatic |
Notes | Top: Pink Pepper Middle: Lavender Base: Cacao |
Release year | 2023 |
Projection | Low – Moderate |
Perfumer | Pascal Gaurin |
Defy Parfum by Calvin Klein is highly concentrated and has amazing longevity. The pink pepper note with cacao smells heavenly. I can’t really detect the lavender heart note, but that could just be a personal thing.
Here’s the thing: many people who smell this say it smells like lavender, but some have also stated that the lavender scent calms down after the perfume has been macerated. I tried a tester, so that could be the reason why I couldn’t smell the lavender, but it’s there. Either way, it is a lovely scent.
Unisex:
1. Tom Ford Electric Cherry EDP

Highlights | Details |
---|---|
Brand | Tom Ford |
Best for | Unisex |
Fragrance Family | Floral Fruity |
Notes | Top: Cherry and Ginger Middle: Jasmine Sambac Base: Pink Pepper, Musk, and Ambrettolide |
Release year | 2023 |
Projection | Moderate |
Perfumer | Tom Ford |
Electric Cherry by Tom Ford is so camp, and I love it for that. It’s bright, effervescent, and almost flirty. But as it dries down, it starts smelling more and more like a cherry lollipop. It’s the cherry perfume you’d want to wear in the summer.
The pink pepper note in the base is visible at the dry down as well. This, alongside the ginger note, also makes Electric Cherry suitable for fall, not just sunny days. But if you’re looking for a cherry fragrance to wear during the winter, go for Cherry Smoke instead.
2. Byredo Rose Of No Man’s Land EDP

Highlights | Details |
---|---|
Brand | Byredo |
Best for | Unisex |
Fragrance Family | Amber Spicy |
Notes | Top: Turkey Red Rose and Pink Pepper Middle: Turkey Red Rose and Raspberry Bloom Base: Papyrus and Amber |
Release year | 2015 |
Projection | Moderate |
Perfumer | Byredo |
This is what I imagine the rose in the glass in Beauty & the Beast smells like. Byredo Rose of No Man’s Land is a deep, spicy rose scent with a dreamy/dark aesthetic.
This fragrance has a unique and amazing mature rose scent. There’s something quite alluring in this scent. Wearing it feels like you’ve just joined a secret society that wears all black and does an annual sacrifice. The question is, are you performing the ritual, or are you the sacrificial victim?
