According to perfume experts and journalists, the trend of citrus perfumes is on the rise. This could be due to the fact that we are at the start of the summer season, and people are looking for anything to help them lift their spirits.
What are citrus fragrances?
Notes
Citrus fragrances are perfumes that carry notes of citrus, such as lemon, lime, bergamot, orange, grapefruit, mandarin, lemongrass, neroli, and orange blossom. These notes can be categorized under the family fragrance of fresh notes and are more commonly found in summer perfumes. That is not to say they can’t be found in warmer fragrances. You can find citrus notes in some fall/winter or even versatile perfumes balanced out with or overtaken by warmer notes.
Longevity
Citrus notes aren’t known for being long-lasting, and that is why you will mostly find them in the top notes of the fragrance. Their purpose is to make you feel refreshed as soon as you apply the scent. It is a good idea to keep your citrus-dominant fragrance with you and re-apply every few hours to maintain that zesty profile.
Versatility
As stated previously, these notes can be found in versatile fragrances, and this is one of my favorite things about citrus notes. Citrus notes can be sweet, bitter, or sour, and they all go well with many other notes. You will find citrus notes balanced by other notes in many fragrances, making this fragrance suitable for many seasons and occasions. Layering various perfumes with citrus ones is also an excellent method to transform any fragrance from a seasonal perfume to a versatile one.

Light Blue by Dolce & Gabbana is a classic summer favorite. Its fragrance profile is predominantly fresh citrus, with Sicilian lemon and bellflower. The lemons here are rejuvenating and fill you with energy, and the bellflower smells like lemons with a hint of florals.
Even when this perfume dries down, the freshness lasts with the floral heart, but to maintain the main character of this perfume, you’ll have to keep it on you and reapply it every few hours for optimal freshness.
2. Chanel Chance Eau Vive EDT

Chanel Chance Eau Vive is the romantic out of the citrus bunch. It is light, fresh, juicy, floral, and slightly powdery.
I would wear this on a date in spring. It has the ambiance of a romantic picnic on a rocky beach. I even know what outfit would go with this perfume: a floral sundress with a half-up-do and a ribbon in your hair. This is the perfect image that captures the essence of this perfume.
For Him:
1. Bvlgari Man Wood Essence EDP

Man Wood by Bvlgari is a versatile perfume with a perfect balance of warmth, sweetness, and freshness. If you prefer a classic signature scent to wear all the time and is still suitable for all occasions and seasons, this is the one.
Bvlgari has made the ideal citrus signature scent for everyday wear for men, which is long-lasting and addictive. If you love collection perfumes, you must have this one in your collection. And if you want to own only one perfume, I don’t see why this should not be it.
2. Joop! Homme EDT

I said it before, and I’ll say it again. Joop! Homme smells like a fresh summer pie! Unlike your typical summer perfumes, this one isn’t quite nor subtle. It is sweet and loud, just like the 80s.
The sweet notes of the base are accentuated and complemented by the citrusy notes at the heart and opening. This is a true gourmand scent that is as sweet as summer daylight.

You just know that I left the best for last. Aoud Lemon Mint by Mancera has a little bit of everything, with a little extra lemon on top.
Pierre Montale knew what he was doing when he created this seductive, intoxicating, fun fragrance. The dominant fragrance profile here is a fresh one due to the lemon and mint notes. You can surely wear this perfume all year round, but I recommend it mostly for summer.
